- The Association of Rice Alumni is pleased to announce Beijing-Owls-L, a discussion list for Rice alumni in Beijing and those interested in Rice activities there. As a list member you will be able to communicate with Rice alumni in the Beijing area to network, plan informal events, and otherwise exchange information that may be of interest to local alums. - The Council of Editors of Learned Journals has given its award for the Best Special Issue of a learned journal in 2008 to the issue of positions entitled "war, capital, trauma," edited by Tani Barlow. Professor Barlow, leading scholar and theorist, is the founding director of the Chao Center and senior editor of positions: east asia cultures critique.
