Faculty

The Chao Center for Asian Studies includes 23 regular faculty members from various disciplines in the humanities and social sciences. This diverse yet cohesive team of scholars collaborates energetically and effectively with other individuals and institutions on the Rice campus, including the Baker Institute, various humanities and social science research centers, and faculty in the schools of natural science, engineering, architecture and business. As a team, our approach to Asian studies emphasizes cross-cultural interactions and comparisons, past and present, with a view to understanding more fully the forces that have shaped, and are shaping, political, social, economic and cultural developments in an increasingly prominent and influential part of the world.
