Mission of OSR: It is the mission of the Office of Sponsored Research to facilitate and support the research endeavors of Rice University. This is accomplished by providing assistance to faculty, staff and students in the development and submission of proposals to external sponsors and in the negotiation and acceptance of research and training awards.
The Office of Research is pleased to announce that the website for its new unit, the Office of Proposal Development, is now available and can be viewed at http://research.rice.edu/. When you visit the page, you will find an overview of the Office’s mission and priorities, along with a detailed list of services available to faculty, staff, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students. These services are broad-ranging and include proposal planning; proposal management; editing, formatting, and review services; and education and training services.
The website also provides information about numerous resources related to the proposal development process and provides links directly to these resources. Among them are the following:
- Funding Opportunity Databases – Lists some of the most comprehensive online funding opportunity databases available, complete with links to the databases, as well as descriptions of their scope and automatic funding alert services.
- Limited Submissions – Explains the limited submissions process and includes links to announcements for limited submissions opportunities; over the coming weeks, the format of these announcements will be streamlined to allow for more efficient browsing.
- Welch Foundation – Describes the Welch Foundation, its research programs, and its research grants.
Additional resources to help you develop a competitive strategic plan for your proposal and to write various sections of your proposal will be added to the website on an ongoing basis. Other resources to be added include information on specific agencies, programs, and funding mechanisms, as well as on the proposal review process. Please visit the website often to collect new tips and helpful guidance!
If you are planning to prepare a proposal for submission in the future, please complete the online request for assistance, or simply call the Office’s Director, Dr. Phyllis McBride, at 713-348-4436 or e-mail her at email@example.com. We’re looking forward to working with you!
